We’re not going to be party poopers and tell you to step away from the selection box, but just want to give you and your family a few tips to enjoy the festive treats without damaging your teeth – after all who wants toothache over Christmas?
Here are some simple steps to protect your teeth and your smile:-
Take extra care: Brush at least 3 times a day during the festive season with a soft bristle toothbrush. It helps to wait 30-60 minutes after eating. Chewing Sugar free gum can help too.
Don’t forget to floss. It’s especially important to get the food out that is stuck in-between the teeth. If you find flossing difficult try floss picks.
Try your best to avoid fizzy drinks where possible.
Hosting a buffet? Make sure there’s a veggie tray with crunchy carrots, celery, cheese chunks & cucumber sticks. The natural crunch can help clean teeth in between the sweet treats and drinks. Kids enjoy to snack on these too so always handy to have them at home.
Try eating sweets during meals and not between, so that acidity levels get a chance to drop.
Replace your toothbrush every 3 months or after having the cold or the flu.
Use fluoridated toothpaste (1,350-1,500ppm fluoride).
Spit out after brushing and do not rinse, to maintain fluoride concentration levels.
